I have been waiting for trader joes to start shelving their 100% Honeycrisp Apple Cider so I could make this spiced cider my family and I absolutely adore. I brought it to a friendsgiving last year and made it on the spot and it was such a hit even amongst those who didn't like cider.
This stuff is literally so good, not at all great for your waistline but on a chilly fall day there's nothing better than coming home to a hug of cinnamon-y, apple-y, clove-y goodness. You can use any apple cider you like, this is just my go to because I like the way it tastes.
The recipe is a modification of one from PickUpLimes:
Ingredients
⣠1 TJ 100% Honey Crisp Apple Cider (1.89L) **this doesn't need to be exact**
⣠3 cinnamon sticks, broken in halves or thirds
⣠1 thumb size knob of ginger
⣠2 cloves
⣠1 orange
⣠1 cup of fresh cranberries **less if you like yours sweeter**
⣠5 cardamom pods, cracked
Prep the fresh
Cut the ginger into half a centimeter pieces and then use your knife to smash it. This helps release the juices. Cut the the orange into a little less than half centimeter slices.
Put it all in a pot
Pour the apple cider, broken cinnamon sticks, ginger, cloves, and cardamom pods into a pot and bring to a boil.
Add the fresh
Bring it down to a simmer and add orange slices and cranberries.
Simmer
As soon as you reach a boil, simmer for about 20-30 mins.
Enjoy đ
ps - this tastes even better after you've left it overnight because all the juices have time to melt into each other. Just heat it up over the stove or in a microwave and you will understand what I mean.
