I literally can't believe it's April already
So much happened this week, but I feel like I can't do it justice in this email so I'll put a post together about it hopefully sooner than later. We'll see how school goes. I was able to volunteer for a COVID vaccination site this week. It was such a great experience to not only observe how mass vaccination programs are organized, but to see literal division of labor in real life. So many different medical professionals were all on site, working together rather harmoniously to increase the herd immunity in our community - it was really heartwarming to be a part of.
I spent half my time drawing up the Moderna vaccine, learning the importance of documentation/labelling for every single dose drawn up and gathering clinical pearls from the well seasoned nurses/pharmacists. I spent the other half with patients actually administering the vaccine. I worked with a first year medical student who has been online for the majority of his medical education thus far. It was refreshing to see how off the walls excited he was to have any patient contact. He reminded me of how equally nervous and delighted I was to see my first patient in clinics and I realized the novelty of patient encounters fades with time. He inspired me to try to treat each patient with this "first time" kind of excitement and strive to not so easily become jaded.
You never know who will inspire you,
