my id is accused of being fake?

One of the hardest things about setting foot on a path divergent from all the friends I made during medical school is that I never really see any of them anymore and all the conversations we used to schoolwork are no longer relevant. Campus is sometimes really lonely because there is no one to go on study break walks with, or to grab a meal with!! I've realized though, that despite us not speaking daily, that bond of going through the toughest parts of medical school together doesn't die easy. We all got together again after they took their post rotation exams last night and it felt like no time had passed at all. It really felt like returning home to my close family.

Carpool squad got together again and trekked our way over together and it felt just like old times.

Everyone exchanged some really funny, gross, crazy stories from being in the hospitals - from pulling their first baby out of the womb during a C-section, to playing Pictionary with psych patients, just sitting there and taking in their experiences was enthralling. The consensus for all was, clinical years were WAY better lifestyle wise than pre-clinicals were. We always felt guilty to do anything fun together during the last two years because exams always loomed over us, but now even my most disciplined friend is out living every weekend!

We really lucked out, it was a beautiful October evening just warm enough to be comfortable, with a cool breeze in the air. This beach bar/restaurant had a live band and lots of cute grandmas and grandpas dancing. They had plenty of outdoor seating that allowed us to enjoy the beautiful area while feasting and catching up. The band music, even though they were playing absolute bangers, was way too loud for us to comfortably talk to each other (and the lead singer also wasn't the greatest...) so we took a walk to the water after dinner. The scenery was to die for, and as someone who had never been to the beach at night before I was super impressed by how serene yet forceful the tides were. The refreshing water against my bare feet and the brightly lit moon above me felt like a movie.

This brewery had two entrances, one main entrance and a side entrance made up of these sliding glass doors. Clueless me (clearly have not been to enough bars/breweries in my 23 years of life) went straight for the side sliding door, pried it open, and as I was about to walk in my friend grabbed me and was like "wrong entrance!!".

We made it over to the front entrance where the bouncer was checking IDs. Of course right before I left the car I purposely left my wallet in the car because I don't drink anyway so I asked him if it was okay for me to show him a digital copy. Unfortunately he made me walk back to my car to get my license. On my way back I saw my group of friends outside with the bouncer and I felt bad since they were all waiting for me.

The bouncer took my ID, asked me to take my mask off to check, and then began asking me a lot of questions. From my birthday to my address... I was starting to get worried. He then started to bend the card, hold it up to the light and then he asked me "When did you get this made? Yesterday?". I FREAKED.

I was like "I SWEAR SIR I'M OF AGE THIS IS REAL I WOULDN'T EVEN KNOW WHERE TO GET A FAKE ONE."

In my few seconds of terror all my friends finally broke and the bouncer was like "we're just messing with you, come on in". I found out later on the security guard is the one who thought it'd be amusing to play this joke on me, and it really did get a huge laugh out of all of us. We didn't stay out that late because we had a few who had early shift this morning, and I had work as well, but it was just such a relaxing few hours. I hope everyone also worked hard this week and remembered

to make time for yourselves and to see your friends!

Thanks for reading,

dee
